Men's Artistic Gymnastics

Men's Artistic Gymnastics use six different pieces of apparatus.

  • Floor - During a floor exercise the gymnast will include movements that show strength, flexibility and balance and combine acrobatic tumbles such as somersaults, twists.
  • Pommel Horse - The Pommel Horse should be a smooth continuous collaboration of circular and pendulum type swings, double leg circles, scissor movements and undercuts using all parts of the horse.
  • Rings - The Rings requires the gymnast to show great strength and balance. They will perform a series of swings and holds both forwards and backwards with an acrobatic dismount.

  • Parallel Bars - The Parallel Bars like the rings requires a combination of swinging movements with strength holds. The gymnasts should travel along, above and below the bars.

Squads

Development Squads:

Boys for these squads are selected by experienced coaches following an initial trial. The boys are chosen because they demonstrate natural physical requirements and potential. Once in this squad the gymnasts follow a training program designed to improve flexibility, strength and coordination which will allow them to develop the required skills at a later stage. Regular attendance is very important for gymnasts in these squads.

Competition Squads:

The squads are for selected gymnasts who wish to work towards taking part in competitions. Gymnastics is a demanding sport and squad members and their families need to realise that entry into a squad requires enormous commitment. In order to be successful a squad the gymnast will need to attend regularly, be committed to their training program and develop a high level of self-discipline. Through hard work and commitment pathways to national and international competitions can be achieved. This can also have path ways to National squads and International competitions.

Artistic gymnastics focuses on individual routines using equipment such as the balance beam, floor exercise, vault, and uneven bars. It’s a popular discipline in both men's and women's gymnastics. On the other hand, acrobatic gymnastics involves partnerships or groups performing coordinated movements, flips, and acrobatics. At Earls Gymnastics, we offer both styles, catering to various interests and skill levels.

Men's artistic gymnastics is a discipline where male gymnasts perform on six apparatuses: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar. Each apparatus requires a combination of strength, control, and technical skills.

What is acrobatic gymnastics?

Acrobatic gymnastics, often referred to as "Acro," involves gymnasts working together to perform routines that include acrobatic moves, dance, and tumbling. These routines showcase balance, agility, and trust between partners.
